2007 Trip to Nicaragua for IAAA Conference & Show

Casa de los Tres Mundos entryThe International Association of Astronomical Artists held their annual conference and workshop in Granada, Nicaragua this year. The conference and art show ran from Feb. 15-22, 2007, and was held at the Casa de los Tres Mundos.

The Casa is host to conferences from around the world and is a cultural foundation that houses a Theater School, Art Studio and Music Academy and manages a library and research center.

IAAA held several presentations, an art workshop and made several day trips to various locations around the country. A primary reason for their workshops is to participate in the practice of plien air painting in locations that resemble geological topographies found on other solar system bodies. To this end, Nicaragua proved perfect with its multiple volcanos, bubbling geyser pits and grand canyon or gorge. Other cultural sights were also pursued, from museums to churches, markets, and of course a wide variety of cuisine.

Bentley also sold a piece, Home and Hearth (#3 of 10) to Carlos Lola, who came by the show on Sunday. They are pictured here in front of Bettina Forget's work.

2006 Bradley Academy for the Visual Arts Showing

In December of 2006 Bentley had a one man show entitled "Digital Space" at the Bradley Academy for the Visual Arts, in York, PA. The show ran through the month of December and consisted of 28 pieces, several of them newer works created since his thesis show.

The show was a result of their coordinator, Sandra Roberts, visiting Bentley's Masters Thesis Show at Penn State. The facility is a gallery style atmosphere situated in their central waiting area, with gallery lighting and hanging. A centrally located wide screen Plasma display ran an ongoing slide show of Bentley's work and his music accompaniment. The photo is outside looking in. A slide show of the installation is accessible on the right. The slide show which was running at the exhibit is available on wide screen DVD. Contact Mitch for details.

Bentley Masters Production & Presentation

Bentley's Masters Production show for his final thesis project began November 15th, 2005 and ran through February 3rd, 2006.

The show opening and Gallery Talk was held December 7th at 5:00 p.m. in the Gallery Lounge (Olmsted Building) at Penn State Harrisburg, 777 West Harrisburg Pike, Middletown, PA., and a second lecture was held January 19th, 2006. This overlapped two semesters, which is both unusual and enabled the professors at Penn State to include the show as a part of their curriculum.

Additionally, I sold two large pieces as a result of the show.
